It isn't everyday that a marketing group has a chance to help solve a major historical mystery by finding Amelia Earhartís lost Lockheed Electra 10-E. Almost as soon as we were briefed on the project by our client, Nauticos LLC, the Starr Seigle Communications team developed a sense of mission to find the plane and help the Nauticos team recover Amelia Earhartís legacy. We felt a bold approach would help break through the clutter of almost 60 years of unsuccessful efforts to find any trace of the airplane. This was necessary before we could find the people wanted in join a legitimate, well-researched, well-executed and soundly scientific effort to "find Amelia". In a brainstorming session with the client, we developed a strategy which involved an internet auction to do something without precedent. Where could we find a partner who understood the evolving world of new media and the internet? And, if we found one, would they take both our vision and our clientís mission seriously.
